Now that the new year is approaching, you might naturally be thinking a little bit about what you could be improving. One thing that people often put on the back burner and that you might want to reconsider is your oral health; even if you\u2019re brushing twice a day or flossing daily, there could be ways in which you\u2019re neglecting your teeth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, many people don\u2019t see their dentist often enough for checkups or cleanings<\/a>. If that sounds like you, you\u2019re in luck; the beginning of the year is the perfect time to see the dentist for preventive care, especially if you have dental insurance. Here\u2019s why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Care Without a Deductible<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As you may know, a feature of dental insurance is the deductible. This is the amount of money that you\u2019ll have to pay before your insurance begins to cover your dental care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, in the case of dental insurance, preventive treatments are often excluded from this. Most of the time, you\u2019ll be able to have your checkup or cleaning paid for without needing to meet your deductible first, making it one of the easiest ways to see the dentist early in the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using Both Appointments<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In some cases, dental plans will provide you with a certain number of preventive visits each year. Most dentists recommend that you visit them for two routine cleanings, so this is the standard for insurance companies that operate this way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you only see your dentist for one cleaning, or not at all, that\u2019s money that you\u2019re leaving on the table. By getting your checkup early in the year, you have a better chance of using all of the preventive appointments provided to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meeting the Present<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ultimately, there isn\u2019t a bad time to get a dental checkup. No matter how thorough you are with brushing and flossing, there are areas of bacterial buildup that you won\u2019t be able to reach on your own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now that the new year is here, you can seize the present and get the care that you need. Who knows? You may even start a new healthy habit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
